Uplift A Child

Uplift A Child is an amazing project which we are thrilled to be apart of. In 2011-2012 we sponsored five children for the entire school year. We organized some time where we could take the children and their caregivers out for a day in the town. We asked them to choose how they wanted to spend their day. They chose to go to the mall and movie theater since they had never stepped foot in one before. We went to the mall and played video games in the arcade room and watched a movie in theaters. We then decided to hit the street markets and shop for school supplies, clothes, shoes, book bags, and groceries for their caregivers. It was a magical day filled with laughter, love, and many smiles; A memorable day that these children will never forget.

We are currently sponsoring the same children for the 2012-2013 school year as well. Below is some information from Uplift A Child’s website along with pictures of the children we are sponsoring.
OBJECTIVE

Uplift A Child International (Vonumu International) is a non-profit organization, founded by Samuel and Rena Vonumu in 2000. Our objective is to identify poor and needy children, place them in a school, and support them through 12 years of schooling through the high school. This will keep the children off the streets, provide them with the basic skills to develop, and give them an opportunity to emerge as self-reliant and productive members of the society. By the time the children completes high school, they will have the necessary social skills and will be mature enough to plan and work towards a brighter future. Until then, we must work with each child in helping the child grow in the right direction.

Our History

We started our organization in 2000 with just 4 children. The following year some more children. After that, many more all the way to 1000+. We had a very small begining starting with just our family. But as the days passed by, God is blessing our mission to the poor and needy. We originally started this as a family help to some kids. But that turned into an organization. It is growing every day with help of God’s blessings, People’s hardwork, Our wonderful sponsors and many Volunteers who work for us free without charging a penny.

Family History Teja is a Semi-orphan child. His mother passed away recently, a year ago. His father is a severe alcohol addict and has many other addictions also. He does labor in fabrication works but spends all his earnings towards his addictions. As a father he is least bothered about his major responsibility. So this child is left to the grandmother’s care. She takes good care of this child but she is old and weak and she herself needs someone to depend upon. In this condition taking the responsibility of this child has become more burdensome for that poor old lady. She will not live long as she is very old, so before anything could happen to her she wants to keep this child’s life in safe hands. She heard about Uplift a Child rescuing many destitute children by giving an opportunity to study. She seeks the help of this organization to educate her grandson. She is requesting to show some courtesy by providing some educational aid and says that she will be ever grateful to the organization and the donor throughout her life. Aiding this child’s education will enlighten this child’s life and make him a better citizen.
